Meet the Crew

With over 20 years of combined captaining experience between Ryan and Darrel, we bring a wealth of knowledge to the water. Susanna hails from the beautiful British Virgin Islands, boasting a rich background in yachting and hospitality. Together, we are dedicated to providing unforgettable experiences on the sea!

Ryan Hanger

Ryan Hanger
Captain & Owner

Ryan hails from White Rock, British Colombia and came to the British Virgin Islands in 2001 on what was supposed to be a short holiday. When sitting at the bar a guy asked him, “We need an extra hand sailing to Italy next week, you in?”, that was it. After sailing around the world, subtly looking for a place more magical than the BVI, he decided that it didn't exist and went back to the BVI. His passion for sailing led to a job at Bitter End Yacht Club, Necker Island, and some really cool private yachts. Ryan has a Business degree and many years experience as project manager, but you wouldn’t know it to look at him. He enjoys sailing his Hobie Cat, baking bread, playing with his dogs and gardening. He dislikes curry, speedos and writing bios.

Susanna Hanger

Susanna Hanger
Guest Experience Manager & Owner

Susanna was born in the UK but moved to Tortola when she was 6 weeks old with her parents. A true island girl, she has grown up on and around boats, from toddling around the pioneer iconic charter boat her family owned and operated, to working in the industry for decades.  A seasoned traveller, Susanna has travelled the globe but has never managed to escape the call of the islands, and always seems to come back here - like an adorable homing pigeon.  Friendly and the epitome of sweet, Susanna will help with all your logistics arrangements (she knows everyone and everyone’s secrets, and speaks fluent Local), and also doubles as our stewardess should you want a fully-crewed day charter.  She loves dogs, her husband, her friends and laughing (in that order).

Darrel Hearne

Darrel Hearne
Captain & Owner

Darrel grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he spent his time prowling the suburban jungles and raising his pet lion, Chaos. He also managed to actually finish school, and spent several years at university studying a surprisingly varied and random number of subjects, all of which are totally useless in his current job. He was also a lieutenant in the South African National Defense Force - salutes are optional on board. He speaks three languages, two of which are only spoken in South Africa. In 2003 he decided to quit his job and give up the exciting life of an accountant, and go to sea. He has lived and sailed in the Caribbean for the past twenty years, sailing on a variety of vessels in the charter industry. He has extensive sailing experience throughout the Caribbean, and knows where to find the best bars on most islands, some of which may let him come back again. He is an experienced and seasoned sailor, with over 60,000 nautical miles logged and over 500 weeks of charter successfully completed.
